Character Summary:

it's hard to sum Levania's origin up more succinctly than that! Levania WAS an introverted, dissatisfied young man who was finally, finally on the verge of living his dream-- when it was all cut brutally short. Though he has no recollection of his life as a human, something of him was reborn as a monster, in a realm of monsters-- dream-eaters, living in a desolate world parallel to the one of humans. His own dream was now to possess what he had never felt truly connected to, when he was one himself: humanity.

Then, Levania met a young girl named Fio.

Fio was troubled by terrible nightmares. Every night, she suffered visions of other worlds, where dreadful things always befell the people she witnessed. Levania offered to eat her dreams.

Night by night, he ate her dreams, experiencing them in her place, seeing far-off worlds-- and getting to know Fio better, drip by drip. Levania's motivations gradually changed from viewing the girl merely as a means to an end on his path to becoming human, to someone he wanted to protect, to avenge, to--

befriend.
He swore to himself, when he was human, he would stand by her side.

Then, Levania finally ate enough dreams to become human.
He woke up in Fio's body. And Fio-- was now in his.
This is, uh. Not exactly what he expected to happen, which made his cheery little guide Carrier immediately be like "???? yeah? yeah? you're SURPRISED? Dipshit"

So.... cue the nigh-instant remorse, venting his anger on Carrier, and Levania's resultant quest to set things back the way they were. And that's where you start playing Nier fuckin' Rein!!! when everything comes to a head fio was like NO I DON'T WANT TO BE HUMAN ANYMORE DON'T MAKE ME MY LIFE WAS THE WORST. they do switch back, and i frankly i have no idea what happens to them after that other than 'fio has a new big brother who is a giant bug now.' also i THOUGHT levania had lost his memory when he first undertook 'turn fio back' quest, but a LATER quest i just rushed through says actually he didn't, he was merely playing along with what an npc was saying. he just uh, temporarily lost hissss [checks]

AU History:
THINGS ARE VERY DIFFERENT FROM NIER REIN CANON IN BD LMAO okay so all that up there? we are mostly keeping the 'young officeworker who dreams of making a game, almost got his dream, got murdered, woke up in another realm with only bleary ideas about himself' part. the rest is a sweep off the board. sp. what about the rest?

Levania the Figment is a particularly notable sight in Yumemigaoka's dreamsphere. He possesses an extremely vividly defined form for a Figment -- some kind of large, black bug -- and is also notable for... literally...

...almost always being around, somewhere...? for the last TWO YEARS?

when, uh. when does bug guy wake up.

Anyway, unfortunately for Levania, somewhere along the way during his life in the Dreamsphere, a few pieces of his have gotten A Tad Misplaced, but not destroyed-- the same six 'senses' he had to work to fully recover in canon: anger, hope, will, prayers, speech, and grief. He would like to have these back.

It's good to have goals, Levania.

I'm ruling he already finished the quests to get his speech back for "playability" reasons, but ofc I would love to wave in cr for that quest/the time before he started talking again and had to get by doing charades.

Unfortunately, like any Figment out there, and because of his nagging urge to find his scattered bits... he has a tendency not to stay in THE PLACES THAT ARE MOST SAFE FOR FIGMENTS levania do yOU REALIZE YOU ARE LIKE A GIANT WALKING ROAST TURKEY LEAVING THE HUB TOWN--

despite his formidable appearance, levania is not a proper Awakened* and cannot easily defend himself as a Dreamer can.

* not with all those pieces still missing, at least

my personal apologies to the DU for the big pointy escort quest. he CAN be reasoned with, because he happens to enjoy being extant, but he also gets bored and gloomy spending too much time at 'home' in the dream-city, and he wants to track down What's Missing to see if it fills that yawning emptiness that's always been inside him. He doesn't remember what it felt like before he lost those pieces... maybe they were always scattered, waiting for him to come find them first.

Does he remember the person he originated from...?
Yyyyyes and no?

Okay, yes, he does, but he is actively trying to push all that away and forget in the hopes that it makes it easier to be, not that guy.

Even though he's taken the literal form of his ideal self... that man's passionate desire to be 'different from what I am' is truly what drives Levania.

The banal, true facts of that man's life are things that Levania tends to push out of sight, out of mind. What was his name? Who was his family? Where did he live? What happened to him? These aren't important. They're just chaff on top of the fact that he needs to be different.

AU Personality:
Levania is still everything his predecessor wanted not to be. He's introverted, awkward, gruff, cynical and uncomfortable with being close to others -- listen, if you listen to him, he's all flaw, no sell. So, like, absolute zero on the self esteem.

He's wrong about himself. Levania is fiercely loyal, dedicated (when he's not, literally missing his willpower), creative, a-- haha, well, a dreamer... and his serious, analytical eye means while, yes, he sees the bad in life very clearly, he is also quite attentive and thoughtful toward those he cares about. When he's among friends, in rare position to allow himself to cone out of his shelf and really flourish, he makes for a compassionate, considerate leader.

The second important thing to cover here is, how do Levania's "missing senses" effect him?

Missing his 'anger.' Levania is testy, but right now he doesn't possess deep, soulful anger over things. He doesn't even seem to care about his own murder.

Missing his 'will.' He can pick out goals, but he doesn't doggedly pursue them; he follows whim, mostly, just getting by until fey moods strike and briefly guide him places.

Missing his 'hopes.' Levania wishes to be 'different,' but he no longer recognizes what that difference is supposed to look like, or how it could be achieved.

Missing his 'grief.' Levania feels no sense of loss for what he once had, only unfulfillment over what he doesn't have yet.


Other AU Changes: mfw ive written out pretty much all of Levania's Canon cr. There's no Fio equivalent because I hope he ride or dies with someone organically in game. he also hasn't identified a desire to "be human." I figure development might determine if his feelings shape into those precise words or not, but I don't think that's an angle I'll aim for, it just doesn't quite fit.
